Clown Journalist Artist

jye is a storyteller, freelance journalist, clown artist, painter and designer based in Berlin. Trained at The Dream Theatre of Pure Form clown school under Dr. Cal Clements, they’ve been studying the Berlin clown scene for years. They created the Berlin Clown Gazette and play one of its lead reporters, B. C. E. Neiderlage (along with others in the cast of the paper), a character who attends performances in full reporter-clown mode and writes satirical reviews that take the work seriously by refusing to take it seriously. The Gazette grew out of a simple observation: Berlin’s clown community is full of talented, weird, generous people who deserve better infrastructure. Not institutions. Just someone actually paying attention, showing up, writing things down, and making it easier for everyone to find each other. That’s the real goal behind Berlin Clowns: building a supportive network where performers, teachers, and students can connect, share resources, and take better care of each other. Outside of clown, Jye writes as a scientific journalist about environmental and social problems, exploring different potential solutions, and providing data backed investigative reporting which is primarily aimed to help activists and other lay people better understand the landscape.
